Lucy Marks

Lucy Marks is a Sussex landscape painter. She paints on canvas and paper, primarily in oil and watercolour. Lucy likes to convey the atmosphere of a place, rather than what is actually there.

About the artist: Lucy’s work as a landscape painter focuses on capturing the energy of the environment in a non-representational way. Her process is to work directly from the landscape, either painting directly or, more commonly, sketching. Through painting Lucy explores the energy, dynamism, movement and the conscious aliveness of the landscape. Using sketches, she returns to the studio to develop work in oil and watercolour media, reflecting the energy and emotion captured in the open air. Lucy also enjoys the different challenges each medium brings. Lucy has had works in watercolour and oil exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (RI), the Society of Women Artists (SWA), the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) all at the Mall Galleries in London. In 2017, she was also winner of the St. Cuthbert’s Mill Award by The Artist & Leisure Painter at the Patchings Art Festival. She holds an MA in Fine Art from Brighton University.
